would be the hotshot star NFL quarterback and she would be the sexy physician making sure he stayed strong and at the ready. After he’s chosen first in the NFL draft, his new manager dumps her for him, over the phone, absolutely shattering her world.<br />
<br />
Ten years later, Malik Cooper, now a Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the New York Kings, suffers a devastating injury that shakes up his whole world. Dr. Jillian Peters is all grown up and operating a successful medical practice that keeps her busy enough to push the pains of the past, behind her. Work is her whole world and she avoids watching football, generally pretending that Malik never existed – until his global newsmaking injury forces them both to take stock of their lives.<br />
<br />
Malik heads to his hometown, to heal and make some decisions about his future, away from the craziness in the big city. A chance meeting with Jillian, their first since the day she was dumped by his manager, turns both their worlds upside down. Malik is determined to right his wrongs with Jillian, but she doesn’t believe she’ll ever be able to trust him, again. Will Malik prove her wrong or is the allure of the fast life too much for the international heartthrob to walk away from?

Trying to build a fruitful business, while also indulging in your love for reading and writing, is tough! But, where there's a will, there's a way, right?! Right! Last November, I entered my first ever #NaNoWriMo. To say I was shell shocked by the end is the understatement of the my minuscule writing career. But, it was one of the most exhilarating experiences, ever!!!!<br />
<br />
The book that I had envisioned completing, about a guy who abruptly ends things with his longtime high school and college sweetheart after he's chosen first in the NFL draft, felt special to me. It meant that I was truly giving my personal writing career, not anything connected to marketing or public relations for clients, a serious go. It meant that if I could get through the grueling ordeal of writing 50,000+ words in 30 days, I could absolutely do as much in a much more reasonable amount of time.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>So, here we are. The book is selling better than any of my three previous releases and I'm really excited about this year's upcoming <b>#NaNoWriMo</b>! I'm actually working on a holiday title right now that I hope to have completed by the time NaNo rolls around. No way in heck I could take on both at once. Or, can I.....?! *weeps at the thought*<br />
<br />
Anyway, check <b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Love-Blitz-Shana-James-ebook/dp/B01HOUZ6QQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1467155386&sr=8-3&keywords=love+blitz#nav-subnav" target="_blank">Love Blitz</a></b> out and let me know what you think! I'm also going to release my first ever print edition of any of my work and that makes me smile as well. This is only my second full-length novel and I'm so excited about getting this third one cranked out. Being able to put your imagination down onto paper, release the stories trapped in your dome, is so fulfilling. I'm constantly working on improving, so I think you'll be able to take note of some great progression in the years to come. Wish me luck! <b>--Shana</b>Peephole Presshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10684872279496922779noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-261050719541488645.post-87474984618082923592016-02-04T01:08:00.000-05:002016-06-29T21:09:03.599-04:00Great Read!: Time is Relative for a Knight of Time<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I haven't exactly been doing a fantastic job of finishing my latest work in progress but I have been doing a great deal of reading and keeping my senses honed. Well, some reading and a lot of audiobooks. The latest one I read is by an author I wasn't familiar with beforehand, Brett Matthew Williams, and I was very impressed with his work. The book that I "read" was written for teens, but the writing was so rich, any adult should appreciate it. It was called "Time is Relative for a Knight of Time" and I really enjoyed it!<br />
<br />
I LOVED the adventure in the book, but I also loved that Brett touched on some of society's weaker points (homelessness, treatment of slaves, poor parenting, etc.) - something that I think is really important, or at least is a great thing to do, in books for teenagers. It also included a great deal of history and trips through time that should spark the imagination and the thinking of any teenagers and heck, some adults, who take the time to read or listen to the book.<br />
<br />
Spring break will be here before you know it and at about 14 hours this audiobook will make a great travel companion or even a great book to read while enjoying vacation. That's one of the great things about audiobooks. I was doing all types of stuff as I listened to this one - driving, cleaning, cooking, etc.! If you have an audiobook on a phone or some other sort of mp3 device you can download these books and keep it moving. Who doesn't like that?!<br />
<br />
Anyway, check Brett out! I think you'll like it and I mean that for both adults and teenagers. It's always good for adults to have their imaginations heightened, anyway. Life keeps us stodgy enough as it is. A great, well-written teenage fantasy book is probably just the ticket to get the proverbial stick out of your bum and bring you back down to earth. If you sign up for an Audible trial, you can even check it out for free and that's even better! Let me know what you think! <br />

I planned to update this more often through this process, but I have so many irons in the fire on so many different projects that have absolutely nothing to do with writing, I don't know how I've managed to write 20,000+ words in two weeks! But, I have!!! Hurray! That's the cover for it here in the post. I can't wait to see how well it's received.<br />
<br />
If you're reading this, there's a big chance you've been trying to figure out whether you should take part, next year (or maybe you're feeling ambitious and trying to decide if you can do it in the next two weeks!). The answer is a resounding, YES! I've barely taken advantage of the wonderful motivational tools available, but I've found that other participants are very supportive via social media, tremendously so, and it's really helped me stay motivated.<br />
<br />
Not to mention, I'm competitive as hell and the last thing I want to do is leave this thing undone. So, I've actually set a goal of finishing just over a week early. It's ambitious, yes, but it's not impossible. One thing that this whole process has reminded me of is the absolute necessity to MAKE time for writing. If you're going to do it, DO IT! The only way you're going to make any progress on finishing a book is to actually spend time writing it. I can't tell you how many people have told me, "Gosh, I would like to write a book, but I just don't know where to begin." My answer is always, "At the beginning!" Most of what you write in that first draft will need some pretty heavy editing anyway, so you just have to get something on the page. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Don't allow fear of the unknown keep you from even starting! <b>#NanoWriMo</b> is a wonderful way to keep you moving towards "The End". Even if you don't quite keep the pace and finish Nano, which I would encourage you to do, at least you will have gotten started. It's been an amazing journey so far and I'm already thinking of ideas for next year's month and I can't believe I haven't taken part before now!<br />
<br />
Visit <a href="http://www.nanowrimo.org/"><b>www.nanowrimo.org</b></a> if you want to take a look around for more motivation and tips. But, don't wait another second if you're thinking about getting started this year! You never know, you may have the next big title inside you just waiting to be written! --<b>Shana James</b>Peephole Presshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10684872279496922779noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-261050719541488645.post-2842363876543609272015-11-04T20:27:00.000-05:002015-11-04T20:27:44.199-05:00#NaNoWriMo…I’m DOING it!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

decided to click on it and I was amazed. It turns out, it wasn't some strange language. It was an acronym for <b>National Novel Writing Month</b>. Scores of individuals were writing about doing something that I thought
was the craziest, most </span><span style="line-height: 17.12px;">undo-able</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;"> thing on earth – they were all trying to write

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">So, from December, 2014 to March, 2015, I wrote my
first novel, <b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deferred-Consumption-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00WDF258U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429557851&sr=8-1&keywords=deferred+consumption" target="_blank">Deferred Consumption</a></b>, and I was so proud of myself. It was then that I knew I could absolutely
write a novel in 30 days – especially with as much encouragement and support as
you find in the <b>#NanoWriMo</b> community. So,
I’m here and am doing it and it couldn’t be more excited! Right now, at about 7:15 PM on day four I
have just over 5,000 words written and I am too excited! Now, I’m not gonna lie, the first three days
were a little rough. First of all, I
started working way too late in the evening and most of what I managed to write
was written through a near Herculean effort.
I’m talking head bobbing, just shy of slobbering work. I had no choice! I knew that if I got too far behind, it would
be very tough to catch up by the end of November and I’m determined to hit the
50,000 word mark well before then. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Even though I drafted a very thorough outline, what I’d
written the first few nights felt so disjointed, I wasn’t too excited about the
story. But, I got up early this morning
and did some work on the intro and now it feels pretty good, so it’ll be
interesting to see how the story evolves in the coming weeks. I’m going to
write some more tonight and, now, I’m really excited!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">If there’s one thing I’d tell anybody who’s thinking
about taking part in <b>#NanoWriMo</b> is that you just have to get in there. Many authors say that they don’t even try to
do any heavy editing until well after they’ve finished their manuscript, and
only four days in, I have to say, I agree.
Just get it down! The first draft
is going to be crappy anyway, so don’t waste your time going back and forth
over that document like you’re writing freakin’ War and Peace! I </span></span><i style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">would</i><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">
encourage you to create an outline. I
know they aren’t always popular with a lot of writers, but they work. They create a really nice </span><span style="line-height: 17.12px;">road map</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;"> so you aren’t
sitting, staring at a blank screen trying to figure out what to write next. </span></span><i style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">That’s</i><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">
no fun and it’s a motivation killer like no other. When you have an outline, you can see the
end, or some semblance thereof, right there on the page.</span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">So, what are you waiting for!? Get off your fanny and get started! Come back and let me know how it’s going. I'm "ShanaJames" on <b>#NanoWriMo</b>, so stop by and say hello! Good luck!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">Today
marks six months since I self-published my very first novel,<b> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deferred-Consumption-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00WDF258U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429557851&sr=8-1&keywords=deferred+consumption" target="_blank">Deferred Consumption</a></b>. So, I thought I'd mark the occasion with a quick blog post about
what it's been like as an African-American author. To put it mildly, it’s
been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. But, it’s also been
one of the most rewarding and most exciting. When I first
set out to write <b>Deferred Consumption</b>, I really had no idea what I was getting
myself into. I just assumed that
everyone loved me and they would buy my book in record numbers. Boy was I wrong. Not that everyone doesn’t love me </span><span style="font-family: "wingdings"; font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">J</span><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">, but that
they cared enough to buy my book the moment I said it was available for
purchase.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">There
I was around 11:00pm on a Sunday night, hands all shaking, as a hit "publish" at
Amazon dot com, then proceeded to publish elsewhere around the internet (<b>Barnes
and Noble</b>, <b>Google Books</b>, <b>Smashwords</b>, etc.).
Hell, I had such a high opinion of myself, I thought I’d wake up the
next morning to find that hundreds, if not thousands, of random strangers who
had never even heard of me had purchased my book. I mean, why not? I had already made a great living writing just
about everything else, so why wouldn’t my books sell? Oh, foolish, foolish girl. I guess I figured some magical fairy was
going to sprinkle some dust into the eyes and ears of every potential buyer out
there and convince them that my book was the one they should get as they
tinkered around on some website looking for a book to buy.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">I
think I sold seven books on the first day and I was pretty disappointed, but
little did I know that would be a <i>phenomenal</i> day of sales compared to what was
to come. </span><span style="font-family: "wingdings"; font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">L</span><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;"> My
own mama didn’t even by my book until two months after it was released. And, I damn near had to beg the heifer to do
it even then. Now, let me be clear. My mama is a southern
church lady and <b>Deferred Consumption</b> is very erotic in nature. So, I could understand her hesitance. But, even if
she’d never read it, I still needed her to buy it to help my sales! She finally bought them, and I do mean "them" because by the time she did buy <b>Deferred Consumption</b> I’d already released <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Officer-Bad-Boy-Shana-James-ebook/dp/B00Y7OUEGA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1432559554&sr=8-4&keywords=shana+james" target="_blank">a second, shorter book</a>. To date, she still hasn’t finished either. Now, I’m a little too embarrassed for her to
actually read them because they are quite filthy and it’s not exactly something
she can chat about with the Missionary Board ladies.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">I
haven’t done extensive enough research to make the claim that this is the
experience for all black writers, but one of the biggest obstacles to sure
success for any writer is the support of family and friends. Every sale matters and when the people who
you know best take their sweet time in heading on over to Amazon dot com or
wherever else your book is posted for sale, it makes it tough to really break through
that red, black and green ceiling. I don’t
think it’s so much that they don’t want to support, though let’s not kid
ourselves, there’s always a few haters in the midst, so much as it is they don’t
understand the urgency of the situation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">I
could tell that many of my family and friends were perturbed that the actors on
the cover of my first book were white. But,
I was equally as pissed that I was basically being told that I could only write
books about black characters, <a href="http://www.etonline.com/tv/2015/03/24140373/set_greys_anatomy_season_one_640.jpg" style="font-weight: bold;" target="_blank">in an age of Shonda Rhimes</a>, no less. Would those <a href="http://www.pewinternet.org/2014/01/16/a-snapshot-of-reading-in-america-in-2013/" target="_blank">faithful African-American readers</a> have bought my book in droves had the cover featured
black actors? It’s something I’ll never
know, but it’s not something that I regret either because I don’t think I
should have had to debut a book with
black characters simply because I’m black.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>

family member, a writer herself who has published with a small, traditional
publisher, was even so bold as to ask me why I chose to make my characters
white. I was quite annoyed that she’d
asked me this, but I entertained the question anyway. I informed her that I have every intention of
writing scores of books and, of course, I would write many that featured more
African-American characters. I told her
that I was just getting started and the characters in this book just happened
to be white because this is the story that I conjured up, but that I would
absolutely be writing stories that featured strong black male and female
leads. To date, I’m pretty sure she’s
never bought anything I’ve written.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

audiobook set to be published any day now and a third audiobook which should be
ready for sale by early January. Sales
have been slow but steady and I’m very proud of myself and I’m very thankful
for the skills and experiences that I’ve amassed over the years that have
allowed me to self-publish in the first place.
More of my family and friends are beginning to realize that this is not
just a quick hobby that I decided to take up, but rather, is something that I’m
very serious about. Many of them are
beginning to buy the books and have congratulated me for my
efforts.</span></div>

Yesterday, as I pumped away at my gym, I looked up at one of the televisions to see a few talking heads discussing comments that <b>rapper T.I.</b> had made regarding women and their ability to lead the United States while on the <b>Whoolywood Shuffle</b> radio show. I'm going to cut to the chase. He said we shouldn't. He made a number of ridiculous remarks about <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/13/politics/t-i-woman-president-2016/" target="_blank">women being too emotional and too irrational to lead the free world</a>, even going so far as to say he believed the <b>Loch Ness Monster </b>could be elected before a woman, then promptly apologized via his Twitter account (after his publicist and wife no doubt chewed him out) saying:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
My comments about women running for president were unequivocally insensitive and wrong. I sincerely apologize to everyone I offended.</blockquote>
<div>
There's a black man in the White House, right now, and T.I. said he believed the Loch Ness Monster could get elected before a woman. What a sad, sad state of mind to live with. <b>NUMEROUS</b> industrialized nations (still not in the United States...) have <a href="http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2012/06/03/how-many-countries-have-ever-had-a-woman-leader/" target="_blank">had females lead them</a>, and yes, we could argue about their effectiveness while in power, but it is not women who have led the world into the vast majority of wars that have decimated the lives of countless individuals. It is not women who created the A-bomb or the machine gun or any number of other atrocities that cause mass destruction. So, who's really irrational and overly-emotional? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
T.I.'s wife Tiny reportedly said he was just an "old school" guy who believes a man should take care of women and such. That's all well and good, but as a father with daughters in the 21st century, he should have known better than to say that crap on a live mic. Men like T.I. are the reason why <b><a href="https://www.rwa.org/p/cm/ld/fid=582" target="_blank">women read romance novels in droves</a></b> -- looking for a man who wouldn't say such stupid shit. Are most of the guys in romance novels mere figments of a writer's imagination? Most likely. But, so long as real-life men are saying and doing dumb shit like stating that a mythical creature could be elected President of the United States before a woman, women will continue to drop those credit card digits like they're hot. Do better, T.I. or at least don't say that shit on a hot mic. --<b>Shana James</b></div>

A new <b>Alicia Keys</b> track entitled, <b>28 Thousand Days</b> is starting to burn up the charts as listeners finally really ponder the message in the song. As the fog of drunken, party-filled summers begins to lift. In the song, she asks listeners what they'd do if they only had 28,000 days, around <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/life-expectancy.htm" target="_blank">the average lifespan of Americans</a>. She asks:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
If you had 28 thousand days<br />
Who would you love? Where would you go?<br />
What would you celebrate?<br />
I'm telling you that life's too short to just throw it away<br />
So have the time of your life, so have the time of your life</blockquote>
Those are some DEEP questions when you realize that a year is 365 days and you're pretty close to hitting the halfway mark on your allotment. I mean, of course, we all want to live longer than 76 years, but it's those years that come well before you reach that stage that you're able to really make an impact in this world. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The first question Alicia asks isn't, "What would you buy?". It's not even "What would you do?" It's "Who would you love?" So many of us spend time chasing the wrong things that we forget one of the most basic necessities in life -- love. There's so much turmoil in the world and so much uncertainty, don't waste your time on bullshit and don't waste your time on dead end love affairs. If there's no love and you can't seem to get it back, <b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pocket-Pep-Talk-Break-Today-ebook/dp/B014SGR3EC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1441208945&sr=8-3&keywords=shana+james&pebp=1441208945714&perid=1RXF1YYA7YH13KVQCXGG" target="_blank">pick up the pieces and move on</a></b>. The lyrics in that Alicia Keys song are so simple, but they're powerful, and you'd better listen the next time you cross that song on the FM dial. The clock is ticking and we don't have a second to waste. If you love someone, let them know. If you don't, let them know and free them so they can be with someone who does.<br />
<br />
Then, "have the time of your life"! Find the people and the things that you love and give them your all! The clock is ticking! Check out A Keys, below, and have a great week! <b>Tell us how you're spending your 28,000 days in the comments!</b><br />

Everyday, I become more and more excited about self-publishing. The liberation I feel when I see my work published, pretty much ANYWHERE, is unbelievable. <div>
Love. It's a many-splendored thing. At least, that's what <span style="font-weight: bold;">Paul Francis Webster</span> told us in his song of a similar name. The lyrics are so short and so sweet, yet so powerfully intriguing. Check out the first verse:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love is a many splendored thing</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It’s the April rose that only grows in the early spring</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love is nature’s way of giving a reason to be living</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The golden crown that makes a man a king</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A KING?! What man wouldn’t want to be a king? Not any I can think of and I’m sure most of you reading are loathe to think of one, either. So, you’d think men the world over would be trying to get their hands on some of this love that Webster wrote about. Trying to get their hands on all resources and tools that will get them closer to this thing that eludes so many. A thing that’s so huge, yet made up of just four little letters. L-O-V-E. </div>
<div>

<a name='more'></a>What better way to stay “in the know” about what women think, want and desire when it comes to love than by delving into the sea of romance novels available out here? I mean, there’s good ones, bad ones, short ones, long ones, sweet ones, sultry ones, erotic ones and straight up pornographic ones. There are romance novels about ghosts giving some chick the old meat stickL, romance novels about two souls colliding and becoming one in an instant, those about old lovers who have found each other once more and the list goes on and on and on! It’s so long and varied that I could probably write an entire book just on the types of romance novels out there! And, why each one is a good place to start when it comes to getting into the hearts and minds of women as it relates to love, lust and relationships. So, why aren’t more of you guys reading romance novels?!?!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="https://www.rwa.org/p/cm/ld/fid=582" target="_blank">Romance Writers of America commissioned Nielsen</a></span></span> to do an analysis of romance buyers and they found that <span style="font-weight: bold;">women make up EIGHTY-FOUR percent of the overall romance buyer’s market</span>. EIGHTY-FOUR! So, what does that tell you? You men are missing out on a HUGE swath of information that might help you stop making some of the foolish mistakes you make when it comes to relationships! Let me be clear. I do not, by any means, think that all men are romance or relationship deficient, but let’s face it, a lot of you are. Instead of getting your information from other men about how to be with women, why not get good, solid information from the ones whose affection you desire? Women! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I get it. You feel like your friends might think you’re some kind of pushover if you’re reading romance novels (*rolls eyes*), but are you trying to get into their boxers and have them prepare you a nice, romantic dinner from time to time, or are you trying to win the affections of a nice young lady? I thought so. So, here’s something to remember. You don’t have to broadcast to the world that you’re reading romance novels! Gone are the days of needing to walk around with a big book with some Fabio looking guy standing next to a scantily-clad damsel in a hoop skirt on the cover. Haven’t you guys heard of EBOOKS!?!?</div>

<a name='more'></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">J.A. Fraser:</span> Wow, that’s a great question. Well, it feels like your floating on air, especially if the situation is emotionally charged. I love the anticipation part of receiving a kiss. Ah, yes. The first few seconds is exhilarating. You know this person wants to kiss you but they are trying to either pace themselves or build up enough courage. So exciting.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love it when your lips touch for the first time and you know that this person is feeling your energy and you are feeling theirs. What a powerful emotion. Also, some great kisses don’t involve any major action, just stillness. Yeah, that does it for me. [J.A. Fraser blushes]</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Shana James:</span> It feels like your eyes are floating in their sockets! A great kiss should really take you to another place. You shouldn’t be cognizant of anything else happening around you if you’re doing it right. I love kissing. I think when a couple stops kissing, some of the fire goes out the door. It’s such a tender, loving, sensual gesture. Maintaining that intimacy is really vital to a healthy relationship in these crazy times. So, keep kissing out there!</div>

The Romance Empire is big! Very big. So, why not take a bite out of that sweet tempting pie? I just did. Last night, I released my second tantalizing romantic novel entitled, <b>‘The Inconvenient Bride'</b>. It’s a fast-paced, highly descriptive, emotionally-charged story that is sure to curl several toes in the hot, summer sand. So, here’s a short excerpt hot off the press! <b>--J.A. Fraser</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">CHAPTER ONE</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Okay, I am almost ready. I just need a few more minutes." Carrie Heights shouted down the hall at her best friend Dylan McCray of nearly twenty years as she took one last look in the mirror. Her heart rate quickly accelerated followed by a wave of heat that ripped through her lean yet curvaceous frame. She wiped her sweaty palms on her conservative, thin, floral, polka dot blouse and tugged at her oversized, worn jeans.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>"Damn, why do I look so average?" She angrily huffed while rolling her eyes upward at her plain, five foot, two inch frame in her full length mirror. "There's no way Dylan will ever be interested in a girl like me." She mumbled to herself, then quickly slumped down on her full-sized bed. A bed that she recently found herself spending an ample amount of time in personally touching, caressing and relieving her raw, thirsty and deep primal needs. It wasn't something she readily shared with anyone or something Carrie really had a choice in. Her womanly desires had become so intense in the last several months that she was forced to masturbate every night and every morning in order to stay sane.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And boy did she masturbate.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Even now, the act of pleasing herself embarrassed her immensely, but it also turned her on to the point of mind-blowing orgasms. However, nowadays, any single thought involving Dylan made her weak at the knees and had her panties dripping wet with desire.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Over the past few years, Carrie had tried, in earnest, to place some meaningful distance between them, but Dylan simply wouldn't have it. So, sadly enough, Carrie was left with no other choice but to massage and caress herself until she was raw to the touch below. <span style="font-style: italic;">If only Dylan knew how unbelievably sick and sexually frustrated he was making her.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At twenty-nine, Carrie was still a virgin. A ripe, tender bud of innocence that needed the warmth of one man, Dylan McCray. The problem was, he didn't know she existed beyond being his best friend and with Dylan adamantly refusing to give her the space she requested, Carrie was stuck between a rock and a hard place. A place no woman ever desires to be. But what other choice did Carrie have other than to walk away forever. Currently, that wasn't an option. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Ah shit, stop it!" Carrie swore loudly as she quickly popped up from her bed and shrugged off the unwanted thoughts from her mind. But, it was too late. A familiar pain had already drifted into her core. The cringeworthy, nauseating feeling was called loneliness and despair. These two well-known feelings always seemed to creep into her gut every time she thought about making a decision when it came to Dylan. As much as she needed to find her own way, without Dylan, she didn't have the courage to break away from him. But why?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"It's not his fault. He doesn’t have a clue,” she aggravatingly uttered to herself. And, that simple statement was the truth. Dylan didn't have a clue that Carrie had a deep longing to be in his warm, strong masculine embrace. Throughout the years, on several occasions, she had come close, very close, to confessing her deepest desires to him, but at the last minute, fear always crept in and stopped her. But, with his thirtieth birthday fast approaching, it was time to "woman-up" and take accountability for her feelings and emotions for once and for all. The problem was, she didn't want to scare him away and lose her best friend forever. And, for that reason, Carrie was irrefutably stuck in the friend zone. <span style="font-style: italic;">Her life sucked!</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From Carrrie’s vantage point, Dylan had the best of both worlds. He had a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week best friend who would roll out the red carpet for him. On the flip side, he also had dozens of dripping with sex, hot models and corporate executives on speed dial anytime he desired to get laid. <span style="font-style: italic;">And, she assumed Dylan got laid often.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With that jealous thought bouncing around in her head, Carrie immediately slammed her heavy-lidded eyes shut and tried to calm down, but it wasn't helping. The mere thought of another woman receiving pleasure from Dylan’s erotic touch caused a small panic attack to overwhelm her. It made her sick with disgust to think about his tongue and fingers nipping and tugging at another’s sensitive region while she was thirsty for his affection. Didn’t Dylan realize she was the one who constantly nursed him emotionally back to health after every ridiculous break-up or trivial letdown? Why did he keep giving his heart to someone else when she owned the key? Why did he keep on selecting the wrong girl when the right one was directly under his nose?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“No more pity parties,” she mumbled on her queen sized bed, then let out an exasperating sigh. Carrie’s current reality was a hard pill to swallow. She was tired of being a mere spectator, watching and observing her life unfold from the passenger seat. It was a cold, lonely, and desperate place that she had occupied for too long. <span style="font-style: italic;">Something had to change. Something was going to change.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Either Carrie was going to confess her true feelings or she was finally going to move on. This terrible secret was crippling her at her very core. Pining over her best friend for the next twenty years was no way to live her life. As a matter of fact, it was a horrible place to be. Simply horrible. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Her thoughts were immediately interrupted by Dylan's deep, sexually enticing, masculine baritone voice. "Carrie, what's taking so long? We are only going to grab a couple of slices! I told Katie we would be there at 7pm sharp. If you don't get a move on, I’m coming back there," he barked with a hint of impatience in his voice.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"N-No, don't! I promise I'm on my way!"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Carrie Heights, how much longer? We aren't going to the fucking prom," he chuckled sarcastically as his thunderous footsteps inched closer to her room door.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Dylan, have a little patience!”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Patience? Really Carrie? For the past few months I’ve been nothing but patient with you. Look, I’m coming in." He stated as he placed his hand on the door knob and turned.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
She quickly locked it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"N-No Dylan, I said two more minutes.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Carrie, what the hell is going on?”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“I said two more minutes. Shit, why did I ever give you a key to my apartment, Dylan McCray?"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Because you love me and you would do anything in the world for your best friend," he cleverly barked back. The words, <span style="font-style: italic;">I love you</span> fell effortlessly from his lips and melted into her ears like chocolate on the tongue.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"I do love you," she faintly whispered, then feel to the ground and buried her head in the pile of clothes she had scattered on the floor. An awkward silence quickly invaded her small apartment followed by a steady stream of panic. There was no way Carrie was going to let the cat out of the bag, tonight. “Dylan, it’s Thursday night. Why don't you have a date? Why do you always want to hang out around here?" She yelled not knowing what else to say.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Because, I’d rather be with my twin sister and my best friend. You know that," he stated impatiently.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Really, Dylan McCray? You would rather be with Katie and I than one of your hot supermodel girlfriends?" She snapped back then braced herself for one of his quick-tempered replies, but oddly enough Dylan didn’t say a word. When he finally did speak, his voice was low and distant from behind the door. "Whatever! I'll be in the den! See you, shortly." His curt and unusually polite response caught her off guard. Something was wrong! <span style="font-style: italic;">Something definitely was wrong.</span></div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Brody used one hand to unzip the jacket to Heather’s sweat suit, revealing nothing but her plump breasts in a fitted sports bra. He used his tongue on her neck to give her a sampling of what he would like to do to her nether region. Heather encouraged his kisses with a hand on the back of his head. She tossed his hat from his head allowing her fingers to work magic on his scalp as he feasted on her neck. Driving her wild with passion.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>“Shit!” he yelled as he pulled away, still trying to hold back on unleashing a full on attack. Still hoping to do things differently with Heather.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They both sat out of breath, eyes locked, before diving back into one another’s space again. Both reaching for what they hoped would be something different. Something more than they’d had in the past.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Brody inched his fingertips beneath Heather’s sports bra. The softness of her flesh sent waves of heat through his body. He snatched up the left side and devoured her left breast, allowing his lips and tongue to properly massage the now hot with lust organ. Suckling her nipple playfully at the end of each tantalizing snack. The saltiness from the sweat they’d worked up during their earlier play made him suck even more vigorously, leaving her nipples wet with his desire. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He moved to her right breast and repeated each step. Massaging the left breast in his free hand, squeezing the nipple, then cupping the full breast in a hypnotically, rhythmic pattern. Heather writhed in her seat. The heat from their passion caused the windows to fog up as he sucked and licked at each nipple, giving them proper attention.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Oh my gosh!” she yelled, unable to ask him to stop. Overcome by his careful attention to her breasts.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He didn’t skip a beat as he hit a button that moved his seat back several inches while still massaging Heather’s right nipple. He grabbed her and pulled her across the center console, placing her squarely on top of his rock hard erection, straddling his massive thighs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A look of astonishment crossed her face at the size of his bulge as it pressed against her plump with lust clitoris. Heather kissed Brody as if they were long lost lovers who’d finally made their way back to one another. As she began to grind against his bulging middle, he hit another button that reclined his seat. Allowing more room for them to comfortably enjoy the moment as their bodies melted into one another. Their breaths hot against one another’s necks.</div>

<div>
So how hard can it be to write a deep engaging erotic sex scene? The answer is simple: extremely hard. Painting a vivid image of what and how two consenting adults receive satisfaction isn’t an easy task. Each word, each movement, each touch has to be written as if you are actually in that satisfying moment. The sentences must be quick and very descriptive. Readers want “real life” pacing and deep intense accounts of what it takes to be completely satisfied by a hero. Finally readers want… “real talk”! Each jaw dropping passionate scene, must include emotional and heartfelt dialogue. So. I use authentic words in my novel. I think my readers appreciate words that “real” people use when they are in the throes of passion. There isn’t any vanilla talk from my characters.</div>

<a name='more'></a>Each chapter, and every scene, is carefully crafted so my readers experience what real love should and can be. I wouldn’t have it any other way. So, brace yourself for genuine passionate lovemaking, from strong defined characters who aren’t bashful about what they need to make them roar in and out of the bed. Yes, it takes time to craft the right words and sentences to describe what two people are feeling when they are nestled close to one another. But I enjoy each passionate and descriptive moment. <b>-- J.A. Fraser</b></div>

<div>
For years, I’ve considered writing a book and attempting to have it published. I majored in English Literature, after all, so why should I feel intimidated by the thought? Year after year, I’d think about it, do a quick, cursory scan of the requirements on various publisher websites, then slink away feeling overwhelmed and give up the notion. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then, one day, a friend started telling me how “easy” it now was to self-publish. Well, electronically anyway. But, I kind of let the information go in one ear and right out of the other. Until one day, the urge to write became so overwhelming, I couldn’t take it anymore. I <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">had</span></span> to find out what this new, “easy” way of self-publishing was all about. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>I researched and I read, I scoured and I scanned…all in an effort to ensure that if I took the plunge, I wasn’t doing so foolishly. I wanted to make sure I had my expectations in check and that I had dotted all ‘I’s’ and crossed all ‘T’s’. It is, without a doubt, a lot of work. But, in the end, it’s so well worth it. You get to call your own shots without having an editor, who has no idea what your internal vision is…ahem…telling you that you need to change the direction of the story. <span style="font-weight: bold;">You get to decide your own price, when the book is released and best of all, you get to keep most of the stinking, filthy booty.</span> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Let’s be honest with ourselves, shall we? Of <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">course</span></span>, we do it for the love, but we also do it so that we can feel the pride of knowing that someone was willing to hand over some moolah for our work, our time and our effort! Am I right or am I wrong?!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, get out there and do your research! It’s not as daunting a task as it seems once you roll your sleeves up and get to it! Just be patient and trust your instincts. And, work, work work! <b>--Shana James</b></div>
